About VidaMed

What is VidaMed?

A London-based UK medical team for people having surgery abroad. We assess you before you travel, offer specialist second opinions and look after your recovery at home.

Is VidaMed a clinic or surgical provider?

No. We do not own clinics or perform surgery. Your surgery is carried out by your chosen clinic; we provide the UK medical care around it.

Who are the clinicians?

UK-registered clinicians, meaning GMC-registered doctors and NMC-registered nurses. Diagnostic tests are carried out by CQC-registered providers.

Which countries do you work with?

We are not tied to one country. We work with overseas partner clinics that have been reviewed against our published Partner Standards.

Do you offer remote consultations?

Yes, where clinically appropriate. Some parts of the assessment, such as blood tests and examinations, need an in-person visit to a diagnostic partner.

Where are you based?

In London, with video consultations for patients across the UK.

Before surgery

Preparing to travel

What does the Pre-op Assessment involve?

Typically a consultation, blood tests, height, weight and BMI, a review of your history and medicines, and an ECG where it is clinically indicated. Your clinician will decide what is right for you.

What is a clinical report?

A written summary by a UK clinician of your health, results and anything the operating team should know. It is shared with a clinic only with your consent.

Can I be told I am not ready for surgery?

Yes. If your clinician finds something that needs attention first, they will explain the options, which may include delaying surgery. Your treating surgeon makes the final decision about your surgery, together with you.

How far ahead should I start the assessment?

Ideally eight weeks or more before you travel, so there is time to act on your results. Shorter timelines are often possible.

I have already chosen a clinic. Can I still use VidaMed?

Yes. Most of our patients come to us through their clinic. We arrange your assessment, prepare your medical report and plan your aftercare. Please tell us the clinic when you enquire.

Can I get a second opinion on my surgeon's plan?

Yes. We arrange a review by a UK specialist in your procedure, by video or in person. Read more on our Specialist Second Opinion page.

Who will I speak to at my first consultation?

A member of our clinical team.

How do video consultations work?

You receive a link by email after booking and a reminder before the call.

Should I tell my GP?

Many people find it helpful. Your clinician can advise on what to share and, with your consent, can send information to your GP.

After surgery

Recovering at home

When is my first UK review?

Typically within days of your return. Your plan will confirm timing for your procedure.

What does aftercare include?

A UK review within days of your return, regular reviews as you heal, scans through diagnostic partners where needed, and one team to contact if something concerns you.

What if I have a complication at home?

Contact us first. A UK clinician assesses you, speaks to your surgeon and coordinates what you need next. In an emergency, call 999.

Will the NHS treat me if something goes wrong?

In an emergency, the NHS will assess and treat you. Routine follow-up and any further treatment are separate matters. Your clinician can explain what to expect.

Clinics

Partner clinics

What does "partner clinic" mean?

An overseas clinic that has been reviewed against our Partner Standards and has agreed to work with our UK clinicians on information sharing and aftercare.

How do you review partner clinics?

Against eight published Partner Standards, with periodic re-review.

Do clinics pay for a better review?

No. The same standards apply to every clinic.

How can my clinic become a partner?

Please see our page for clinics and submit the clinic form on our contact page.

Payments

Fees

How much does it cost?

It depends on your procedure and the support you need. Many patients' care is arranged through their clinic. We confirm everything in writing before you commit.

Do I pay VidaMed for my surgery?

No. You pay the treating clinic for surgery under its own terms. VidaMed charges for UK assessment, coordination and aftercare.

Do you receive fees from clinics?

Partner clinics pay a simple per-patient fee. This does not affect our clinical advice.

What if I decide not to travel?

Please tell us. Refunds depend on the services already provided and our terms. We will explain this before you pay.

Privacy

Your information

Who sees my health information?

The clinicians involved in your care. We share information with a clinic only with your explicit consent.

Is my information sent outside the UK?

If you choose a clinic abroad and consent to sharing, your summary will be sent there. Our privacy notice explains how we protect it.

Can I withdraw my consent?

Yes, at any time. Please email hello@vidamed.co.uk. Withdrawing consent may limit what we can do for you.

How do I complain?

Email hello@vidamed.co.uk with "Complaint" in the subject. Our safety page explains the process.
